What would you do if you worked  in an office visited by ghosts?  If you're like us, you'd want to learn more.  That's just what we did and that's how we became GHG Ghost Hunters.  

A little background about the area, our office is located in an area of downtown Pensacola that was once known back in the 1800's as the Red Light District, a place the French, English and Spanish sailors would frequent when their ships came to trade in the area.  Years later it was known as the tan yard, a place where animals were killed and their hides were made into clothing, shoes, saddles, harnesses, etc.

Although the company we work for has owned the property for twenty three years, it wasn't until 1995 that strange things began to happen or possibly that we began to notice unexplained events.   We should mention that  the company suffered the loss of both our salesman and our company President  within a year of each other.  It wasn't until the second death that we began receiving visitors.

 After a hurricane flooded the building, the carpet had to be replaced.  When a crew came to remove the old carpet, a floor safe was found in one of the offices.  The owner of the company searched the entire office for a key to the safe but never found one.  After having dispatched a locksmith to open the safe, he found he could not do it without busting up the floor with a jackhammer.  Finally, the safe was opened but all that was found were some water soaked papers.  

Days after we went through all this trouble and expense, the owner opened her top desk drawer and there lay a key tagged "floor safe" in an unfamiliar handwriting.  She had previously searched all the drawers of her desk and the key had not been there.  

Another story is of when the cleaning lady came in for her weekly visit.  She was left alone in the building as she had been each week.  She had commented that there were times she felt uncomfortable, as if she was being watched even though she knew she was alone in the building.  On  one particular evening, she saw a man in the building with her but no one else was there.  The description of the man was very similar to the man that others have seen.   She promptly left and never returned.

Due to company growth, a portion of the warehouse was converted into office space.  During the renovation, Carol and Marlene would take pictures to document the progress.  In one picture, there is what looks like smoke in the picture.  The photos that day were taken with a 35mm camera, photos before and after this shot from the same area did not yield anything unusual.  From the negative, a reprint revealed the same anomaly the processor commented that the "smoke" had to have been present at the time the picture was taken, that it was clearly in the negative.  At the time this photo was taken there was no electricity, nor smoking in this section of the building.

At that point in time, not knowing what they were looking at, they just filed it away with the rest of the pictures.  Later, as our inquisitive minds got in tune with what was going on around us, we realized that the picture might be worthy of further scrutiny and possibly being ectoplasm.  It clearly shows two separate ectos as if they're side by side.  

On two different evenings Marlene was working late and alone in the secured building.  In deep concentration, the sound of footsteps in the outer hallway gave her pause to look up - in her peripheral vision she saw a man walk by her office door down a hallway that had no exterior exit.   The building was searched while Carol waited on the telephone, the search revealed no other humans in the building.

Another evening as she was walking to the door exiting to the warehouse, she saw in the glass on the doors the reflection of a man, turned around and saw no one.  She called Carol immediately and told her what had happened.  Carol stayed on the phone until Marlene once again checked the entire building but as before no one was there.

This sighting was much clearer, a male from the waist up, approximately 5'6" or 5'8" in height.  The general description as to features, hair color and clothing prompted Carol to retrieve a photograph of the company founder.   After viewing the photograph Marlene agreed that man see saw so clearly reflected behind her in the glass matched the image in the photograph - the company's founder.

Several times, when walking thru the corridors you can feel a presence with you.  Often times we see shadows go past us and on one occasion, April saw a man sitting in the reception area and when she passed back thru she asked Marlene who the man was...there was no man, but minutes before that happened the rod attached to the mini blinds began swinging as if someone had slapped it into motion.  

During a lunch break, Carol hopped up from the table and headed to the reception area, she returned shortly with a confused look.  She said she had seen a man dressed in dark slacks and a blue shirt walk by the door headed down the hallway - she found no one when she ventured down the hall.

The sound of footsteps in the front hallway are common, even though the area is carpeted.

Files turn up missing and show up a week, a month and even a year later.  Things are moved around and chairs are raised and lowered.

We occasionally hear a slap as if  a toilet seat fallen, yet when we check the seat is actually in the up position.  Repeatedly the water is found running in the restroom and the faucet is on full force. 

Over the years video cams have tracked orb movement through one hallway and into the break room area.  The orbs appear to move with purpose, dodging and avoiding contact with furniture.  Still photos in this area normally have one or more orbs.

The table in the break room is large and heavy, a table built for board meetings.  A gift of wine was received from a vendor, the bottle was placed and left near the center of the table for many months.  Early one morning, Carol and Marlene heard a sound, their attention was drawn to the center of the table - they watched as the bottled rotated and wobbled on it's edge as if someone had spun the bottle. Fully expecting the bottle to fall, we watched as it settled down and remained in place.

Other employees were reluctant to consider the possibility of a ghost, mush less the idea of working in a haunted building - yet they each admitted that unusual, unexplained things continued to happen.  Even though denying the possibility, they would not remain in the building alone.

It was not uncommon to feel a light touch on the shoulder or to feel as if someone were peering over your shoulder as you worked, yet when you turned around no one would be there.

In the eight years that we monitored and documented events we were not able to assimilate a pattern or cycle to the activity.  Most often the 'announcement' that preceded some type of unexplained event would be a crackling sound near the ceiling in certain rooms.

Graciously the company President allowed our investigations, but it was much later before she shared events that she witnessed, misplaced items, articles and paper work being 'rearranged' or the feelings that she was not alone in her office on many occasions.
