Ghost Tracker Investigations

Milton Residence

Legend:

In research conducted by the owner through public records, historical research and folklore indicate the possibility of unmarked graves on this property.

Land records and property transfer research is incomplete.  It has been suggested that the property in the area may have changed ownership over short terms.  GHG Ghost Hunters were not able to validate this claim, but do feel this area of research should be continued to determine if property owners in the immediate vicinity have been short term.

A cursory review of Santa Rosa county waterway maps did not indicate an underground water source.  A lake and springs are located in the immediate vicinity, with Black Water River nearby.

The area surrounding the property is heavily wooded, sparsely populated.

The property owners have been documenting unusual activity as it happens.  To date unexplained occurrences do not appear to have a pattern relating to weather or specific dates.  It is our recommendation that they continue with documentation noting as much detail as possible.

Reports of Activity:

Unusual animal behavior in one of the pets for past nine months

Radio came on unassisted

Unexplained cold draft in living room

Beard tugged, head patted

The first visit to this location was for a daylight walk through and interview purposes.

Other than several “lens flare” type anomalies that looked like anchors we did not find any photographic phenomena.  The “anchor” shaped flares are mentioned due to the fact that historic documents indicate a Spanish ship did sink within 10 miles of this property in the Black Water River trying to escape a hurricane.  Nichols Lake is within a close proximity, but it is not known if the lake and the river connected in the past.  Video and audio from this visit did not reveal any unusual activity.

This visit did indicate a negative energy near the home on the east end.  The previous evening visitors had implemented a Ouija Board on the property.

A photo  taken in response to the sound of the wind chimes moving when team members detected no breeze or wind.

On two separate occasions a man was seen in the porch area, Mr. Wright assured the team that the home’s other occupant did not exit the home.

At the time this photo was taken, flash reflecting on moisture/humidity was not apparent. In this particular location an orb was tracked by 3 different still cameras.  EMF reading had intensified during this time and a noticeable drop in temperature.

Audio/visual tapes from this visit have been reviewed with three possible targets of paranormal events..

Extreme cold spots could be felt in the “gray” area, but temperature readings only indicated a few degrees difference.

Site Chart

The apparition of a small female child running was noted on the last visit by the medium – it was not determined if the child was associated to the land or extensive collection of antique items.  Keywords: marker and dig were prominent.

EMF readings were extreme approximately three feet from the inside of the fence following as we paced off steps from the south/west portion of the property to just north of the storage unit.  The EMF reading directly ahead was low.  We repeated the process from north to south; the EMF readings remained high as we headed south – but not to the north or behind team members.  Photographs did not validate any activity to coincide with EMF readings.

The smell of wood smoke was noted in two locations in the gray area.

A train could be heard in the distance about 8:35pm, but was faint.  The audio recording from inside the home under review sounds as if the train is in the immediate vicinity.

The gray area in the chart on three separate visits was consistent with EMF readings and orbs in photographs. It is our opinion that this area is suspect for paranormal activity.

Power lines did not appear to have an influence on readings.

Research has not revealed a known underground water source in this area. .  A well did exist between the red truck and the fence at one time, but is no longer in use. The owner has indicated that it is possible that a spring feed creek was dammed to create a nearby lake.

The surrounding area is heavily wooded, sparsely populated.

Efforts to determine the possibility of a cemetery as indicated by property records were not successful.  The owner has contacted UWF to bring in skilled personnel with proper equipment to determine soil density.

Property owner has an extensive collection of photographs from the gray area with what appears to be orbs and ecto.  We were able to duplicate the orbs in photos that we felt were not related to dust, moisture, insects, pollen, etc. – however we did not have the mist or ecto in any of our photographs.  The property owner does not allow smoking on the grounds, even during high humidity and cloud cover moisture was not reflected in the photos taken.

Equipment Implemented

4 Digital Cameras
3 35mm Cameras
1 Video Cameras
2 Voice Recorders
3 Trifield Meter
1 Gauss Master Meter
1 Single Axis Digital Gaussmeter
1 Remote "IR" Thermometer
1 Humidity/Temperature Digital Meter
1 Metal detector

The evaluation of the data and documentation was considered conclusive to paranormal activity on the site.  The opinion and supporting documentation pertains only to the site, the home was not part of the investigation process.

Research materials suggested, but did not prove this site to be an old family cemetery.

A compilation of all the data gathered over a period of three months was submitted to NFPR, Inc. and to Andrew Nichols, Ph.D. at the American Institute of Parapsychology.

Nichols Lake home haunted, owners say

Mike Wright watches as a visitor to his East Milton home looks at the back of his digital camera for signs of ghosts in his pictures. Wright says the ghosts are most evident in nighttime, digital, flash photographs.

Costumed children may not be the only ghosts and goblins roaming the streets of one East Milton neighborhood Halloween night.

In fact, every night is a Halloween of sorts at the Nichols Lake home of Mike Wright and Rai Orszak, included in the book "Encyclopedia of Haunted Places," which was published this year by New Page Books. It lists the Nichols Lake area as one of just six haunted places in Florida.

Wright has been recording unexplained phenomenon since 2002 when outdoor photos showed images of glowing orbs and wisps of ectoplasm -- a smoky residue paranormal experts believe to be the residue left by spirits -- that were not visible to the naked eye.

Ever since, Wright has spent hours each night taking hundreds of pictures, only some of which show the mysterious images.

"I talk to the spirits every night," Wright said. "They tell me I am a spiritual photographer."

Some of the photos even seem to show faces and images of a man hanging from a tree.

Research has led Wright to believe that his 1.25 acres was once near or part of a cattle plantation that may have included slaves and that an unmarked slave cemetery could be a part of his land.

A preliminary investigation in 2003 by GHG Ghost Hunters of Pensacola encouraged Wright to continue to collect data about the phenomena because "the consensus of the group is there is a very strong possibility of paranormal activity at this location."

Following that preliminary investigation, locally renowned psychic Sharon Renae visited the property to make an assessment.

"I did sense there was an energy there, a life energy," the Navarre-based medium said. "I do feel like it was a burial ground for black people. It could be one person buried there, or it could be 50. I definitely felt like it was a black cemetery."

But there was at least one other presence there, as well.

"I kept picking up this little girl, a white girl," she said. "I remember seeing this big bow in her hair."

But Renae couldn't communicate with the girl, who stood near the corner of the home, and Renae did not go inside the structure.

Could that little girl be Sarah, the ghost Orszak has particular insight to? He said she likes to misplace things.

"All of a sudden, I won't be able to find my measuring tape, and I yell 'Stop it, Sarah,' " Orszak said. "Eventually, I'll find the measuring tape somewhere around the house."

Wright's experiences have not been limited to the photographic evidence. He has heard disembodied moans, a mother humming to a baby, loud banging on interior walls and other inexplicable occurrences.

For instance, a television set once increased and decreased its volume, interrupting Wright's telephone conversation, and a 100 watt bulb was repeatedly replaced with a 25 watt bulb, without any human assistance.

"Spirits don't like the light," Wright said. "They prefer the darkness."

Wright and Orszak are a longtime entertainment duo from the Las Vegas stage who have always felt they have intuitive abilities. They bought the East Milton property in 1992 while visiting the area with a circus. They found the Nichols Lake land on the last day of their search, and they say they felt drawn to it.

While the previous owner also reported strange phenomena -- shadows passing in the hallway and door-knocking with no one on the other side -- Wright feels he has a special connection to the land.

"Take a couple pictures over there," he told a group touring the property earlier this week, as he pointed the area between two trees he says is particularly active. "While we're standing here, the spirits are standing over there looking at us."
